Giving Blood

What do you think about giving blood?
And why do you think more people don't do it

I'm interested in the subject and I don'tknow mch about it
I want to discuss it
We seem to always have a hsortage but it seems so easy to fix

Theres a shortage because the amount of people that can actually GIVE blood is really slim.
From memory, some of the requirements are...

Must be over 16
Can't have gotten a tattoo within the past year
Can't have been in england during the mad cow disease time
Can't be on anti biotics

I, personally am a blood donor. I've donated twice this year(since I only turned 16 at the end of last year)
I think its one of the best things I've done.

I also think people don't want to give bood because they see it as 'theres' its the same logic many people have about being an organ donor. It is something their own body makes for them and they shouldn't have to share it.

But I hate that attitude. You make blood like theres no tomorrow(if you are healthy) so you can spare some to save another life.

Besides the rules about donating, theres the different blood types.
Because of the slim amount of people who give blood, you have to have a match of blood types.
So that narrows down the field even more for potential blood recipients.

I'd donate if I could.
I'm not 16 so I can't :(

But there must still be a few hundred thousand people within the rules that can give blood.
I find it quite horrible that more people dont give it
I would give blood if I could but under the current circumstances I can't
I have a friend actually who is giving blood tomorrow
Thats what sparked my interest in the subject

I would encourage people to donate blood. I am a little afraid to do it but I think that maybe I should do it anyway.

It's relativley unpainfull and takes little time
And you could help save someones life
Dosen't that make it worth it?

I guess it's just becuase of the saftey risk of you loosing too much blood and then having something bad happen to you
You could pass out or loose coordination

I would if I were of age, beacuse other than what Metal just said, I don't see any reasons why helping other people out by donating would be bad for you

There's also the problem that theres many different blood types
I have quite a common blood type
But some people have a very rare blood type
And others that have those rare blood types don't want to donate

I think that instead I'll donate some hair to kids with cancer.

Yeah, I've done that before. Your hair needs to be really long however. They cut off 10 inches of your hair and then make wigs for children with cancer with the hair.

Yes, I think I may do that. I feel like cutting away my past anyway.

Maybe it is a good thing to let them feel and look more like normal people. They did nothing wrong to "deserve" cancer. It just happened so I may as well make their existence more pleasurable, though I would really have nothing to gain in doing so.

I think i might do this when my hair gets a bit longer...

I don't think my hair will ever get long enough for me to be able to do that, but I can still give blood soon

I hate needles.
But I would give blood.

I think that most people don't is their dislike for needles, & they'd have to go out of their way.

I don't understand how people can hate needles so much
I mean it's slightly painful at most
It'd hurt more to stub your toe on a piece of furniture

It's never as bad as it seems. To be honest, it doesn't hurt much.
So I'll rephrase; I hate the way I get really nervous before getting a shot.

The only reason I'm hesitant about giving blood is because I have a fear of dirty needles and air being pumped into my bloodstream and making me die.

I'm looking forward to cutting my hair for the children with cancer. I will know the pain they feel from ignorant and judgmental eyes when I am bald. (yes, completely bald)
